About Me

I have worked in the charitable sector for more then 20 years.

Over this time I have seen the sector  be challenged and challenge itself.  My purpose is to support the charitable sector, and the leaders within it, through those  times of change.

Much of my early working life was spent slaving over my PhD.  This is also when  I gained my skills in doing real world evaluation that support learning and accountability and is firmly rooted in a clear theory of change.

Mid career I moved over into the world for funding policy.  I learnt to be a funder (at the Big Lottery Fund, now the National Lottery Community Fund) and today continue to  support the philanthropic sector through my work as a trustee of Smallwood Trust and my Associate roles at the Association of Charitable Foundations  and the Institute for Voluntary Action Research.

After a 2 year career break – to have my second child – I went to work at the Design Council as their Director of Policy, Research and Communications. Here I discovered the power of design to support fast learning, through iteration, experimentation and insights.

Now as a working mum of two I try to keep on the right side of a work/life balance.  As a passionate advocate of the sector I hold a mixture of roles that seek to bring about change, shift power to people closest to the issues, value lived expereince expertise (as much as we do practice and learned expertise) and support a more equitable, diverse and inclusive society.

Tubdeel. (in case you are wondering) means change in Urdu.
